Bukit Timah Saddle Club
Bukit Timah Saddle Club (BTSC) runs an eight-week beginner course for members and non-members alike, available for children who are at least six years old and one metre tall. During the first two lessons, children will learn horse handling, while the next six lessons will be on horseback. Upon finishing the course, your child can continue lessons by signing up for BTSC’s public riding courses or membership for more lesson privileges.
Children as young as four can start early with BTSC’s Pony Club, where they will learn stable management and pony care. Through caring for the ponies, children cultivate respect and empathy for the animals as well as self-discipline. While the Pony Club does not offer riding lessons, it builds a good foundation for future interactions with horses. An annual fee is required to be part of the Pony Club, though BTSC membership is not.
BTSC also offers pony rides on weekend mornings for children aged 3 to 12 years at just $10 per ride. For a family-bonding experience, book a 45-minute Trail Ride, a guided trek on horseback as a group that’s open to everyone between ages 7 and 60.

Gallop Stable
Gallop Stable was established with the goal of making horse-riding accessible to the public and provides lessons with no membership requirements at any point in your horse-riding journey.
Riders as young as 3 years old can enjoy 20-minute private introductory pony-riding lessons, which provide casual exposure. Your child can pick up formal lessons almost immediately after. For children above 4 years old, Gallop Stable offers 30-minute weekday private lessons on basic riding techniques with an instructor, and allows family members to join these lessons. Young children will be riding ponies for these lessons.
Your child can also join Gallop Stable’s three-day workshops, which are open to participants aged 5 and above, and cover all the basics such as introduction to riding and taking care of the horse. Children must be aged 7 and above to sign up for Gallop Stable’s structured seven-week beginner course and ride horses. Thereafter, all riders progress at their own pace in private or group lessons.

Singapore Polo Club
For the truly ambitious young riders, Singapore Polo Club’s Riding Academy offers the training resources to take you further, with decorated equestrian champions on the teaching staff and lessons spanning beginner to championship levels. Riders can learn all about the fundamentals of posture, riding as well as balance. The academy accepts students from age 6 and above; members and non-members alike are eligible to start classes, but non-members are required to sign up for membership to continue lessons after three months.
For a more light-hearted introduction to horse-riding, sign your child up for the Pony Club instead. Here, young children gain exposure to horse-riding by first managing ponies, with emphasis on grooming, washing, shoeing and feeding (and of course, cuddling). The Pony Club also organises regular camps, parties and film screenings, and collaborates occasionally with the Riding Academy to start Pony Club members’ horse-riding journey early with some mounted training.
The Pony Club accepts children from the age of 4 and requires no Polo Club membership at any point, although a monthly Pony Club fee is charged.
