SINGAPORE

Citroen has introduced the all-new C4 in Singapore, with prices starting at S$109,000 inclusive of COE. The C4 has been reinvented as a pseudo-SUV/hatchback, which means that it now competes against the likes of the Honda HR-V and Kia Seltos.

The overall design comes across as a sort of coupe-SUV look, similar to the Renault Arkana, with its swoopy roofline and raised ride height. It does feature pretty sizeable proportions though, measuring in at 4,355mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,525mm tall. That puts in effectively on par with the HR-V, but the Citroen also boasts a pretty generous wheelbase of 2,665mm, which should mean plenty of room inside.

The interior also boasts neat tricks like a front sliding drawer above the glovebox that can accommodate a slim item such as an iPad, as well as what Citroen calls Smart Pad Support, which is essentially a tablet holder for the front passenger.

Powering the new C4 is 1.2-litre turbocharged engine that produces 129hp and 230Nm of torque, which means it just about falls into COE Cat A. 0-100km/h comes up in 10.4 seconds, while top speed is rated at 210km/h. The C4 also nets a S$15,000 VES rebate thanks to its A2 classification, and the C4 is able to return a fuel consumption figure of 4.7L/100km.

Similar to the C5 Aircross SUV, the C4 majors in comfort, and features Citroen’s Progressive Hydraulic Cushions which adds two additional hydraulic stops to the suspension system for rebound and compression. Citroen claims that this allows the C4 to be able to deliver a ‘magic carpet ride’.

For now, Cycle & Carriage Singapore, Citroen’s official distributor here, has only revealed the pricing for the C4 Feel model, which retails for S$109,000 with COE, and comes with standard equipment such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, plus safety features like lane keeping assist, collision warning and active braking.

C&C will release pricing for the higher-spec C4 Shine later on, and the Shine model adds features such as a sunroof, a wireless smartphone charger, a head-up display, and a blind spot monitoring system, on top of what is available on the C4 Feel trim level.

Previous iterations of the C4 took the form of a hatchback that would compete against the likes of the Volkswagen Golf, but the latest model’s pivot towards an SUV-like body style means that it now has to face up to a greater variety of rivals, spanning from the ever-popular Honda HR-V, to new market challengers like the MG HS. The C4 does boast an extremely attractive price tag, plus the cachet of being a European brand, so could prove to be an excellent value buy in this market.
