jetpack

Up, up and away… with a jetpack
If you think Sentosa’s attractions are done and dusted, think again.

Find Ola Beach Club on Siloso Beach and you’re in for some adventures. This beach club is named after the Hawaiian word for “life, health and well-being” but the ambience here is anything but languid. Adrenaline junkies from all over the island flock to this beach-side venue to experience its array of exhilarating water sports.

The star attraction here is the jetpack, which catapults you 9m high. A water-propelled 12kg jetpack sends you flying up into sky and sends you dipping back towards the waters, and occasionally takes a sharp swerve to leave you shrieking with delight.

Bungy jump at AJ Hackett

Depending on your emotional and physical condition the moment you arrive at AJ Hackett, your choice of thrill may vary. There are three activities available here, but you can always leave the others for the next visit.

True daredevils come for the Bungy Jump, where they plunge from a platform 47m above ground. It’s so popular it attracts up to 25 jumpers every hour! A menu of 10 different jump styles keeps everyone coming back.

If you feel stronger in the company of two of your buddies, consider the Giant Swing, which flings you into the air at speeds of up to 120km/h – OK, it still lags behind the 187km/h top speed of your Citroën C3 Aircross. You are strapped faced down, and hurled from 40m above ground. Each five-minute cycle supposedly takes you through six different swing styles – if you remember to count, that is.

After these, the Skybridge sounds like a breeze: Cross the two towers from 47m above ground. Get yourself into a Glass Cube and have fun trying to steady those shaking knees (or nerves).

The-Fragment-Room

Release the Kraken at The Fragment Room

There will be people and problems that leave you hopping mad. But don’t jump straight behind the wheel and attempt to let off some steam by hitting 100km/h.

Most grown-ups get over to The Fragment Room instead. This is where you can do the dramatic thing and smash a couple of plates, cups and vases, or radio sets, TV sets and other electronic appliances! And while you’re at it, scream, shout or wail to your heart’s content – there’s no stopping or judging you.

Since you are more Bruce Banner than the Incredible Hulk, you will be kitted out in safety gear before you are released into the rage room. Each room is good for two people. Additional charges apply if you’re bringing your own items, such as a standee of your obnoxious enemy #1.

Soak in the fun of underwater hockey

Underwater hockey, also known as octopush, was introduced in Singapore in 2004 but goes back more than 60 years in England.

In this exciting limited-contact sport, two teams try to drive a puck into the opponent’s goal with a 35cm-long stick – all while being submerged in a swimming pool! The game is divided into two halves, each lasting 15 minutes. Each team comprises 12 players, with 10 playing in the game. Players wear a pair of fins, a diving mask and snorkel, and a padded glove. Each player tries to manoeuvre the puck by flicking it to his or her team mate.

The Stirling Underwater Hockey Club offers classes for beginners, which include eight lessons with their seasoned players as well as two games.

Bubble-Soccer

A ball of a time with giant inflatable suits!

Bored of your typical ball games? Don a giant plastic bubble suit and play Bubble Soccer. It’s like five-a-side soccer, except all players run around inside inflatables. It’s oddly entertaining if you’re watching from the side, and quite challenging if you’re the one getting knocked over in the field.

To showcase your physical prowess, there’s also Bubble Dodgeball, which has the same objective as the regular sport with the added fun of trying to knock your opponents while they are cushioned in a ball.

The games can even incorporate an element of strategy, such as Bubble Captain, which requires each team to come up with a plan to deliver their captain to the opponent’s base while defending their own base. Trained facilitators will be on the ground to ensure that players will have a fun and safe experience.
